Today I received nice e-mail from Jonas Salomonsen, Danish journalist who writes for videnskab.dk. In short, he informs me about “IT University of Copenhagen” research results on World of Warcraft and fashion, which concludes (wait for it..)… WoW players care about their avatar’s appearance!
“We were surprised that just look and dress meant so much to the players. The difference in the online world and the real world are perhaps not as great as we walk around and think, “says researcher in digital culture Lisbeth Klastrup from IT University of Copenhagen.”
If anything, we are not surprised, research confirms what any above-average WoW player knows; WoW is as big as life. When you spend 40+ hours / week logged in, it doesn’t come as surprise that you replicate IRL desires, wishes and ideas into a game (and vice versa). It’s topic that many game producers ‘exploit’ with free-to-play-games which cost nothing to play, but character customization can be purchased via so called micro-transactions.
But first hats off to “IT University of Copenhagen“, I’ve visited their website and searched for ‘warcraft’. There was so many results that these guys must have their own T9 raiding guild formed. However, I managed to find article in question, so here is the link: (EN/PDF) https://journals.tdl.org/jvwr/article/view/305/427

Recently I started to level up paladin with few friends of mine, so I’ll try to prepare some winter festive outfits (beside ones Blizz will prepare for us). If you have ideas, feel free to contact us
.
Thanks
Thanks Jonas for all the info, read his article (via Google Trasnlate): here.
Thanks to “IT University of Copenhagen” for noticing WoW gaming communities and their fashion habits.

If they interviewed me, they would probably end report with conclusion that WoW players are insane -.-
I suppose it might not be as obvious to others than it is to us… I couldn’t help but think “well.. yeah…”
I mean it goes back to when you’re playing monopoly and everyone wants the car or the dog, but no one wants the smelly old boot. Because that ‘icon’ it’s what’s going to represent us in that game… Even business cards! They represent you so you want them to be good!
And now that my initial thoughts are down, I’ll go read it now
Y, I agree Angaurwen ^^ . But it was hard for me to write article about something that you take for granted. Grass is green.. k.. and ?
