Most of us know the standard bank alt ensemble:
But if you would like to dare to be different, or if you’d rather just keep your options open, here are some suggestions for some level one bank alt gear that very few others have!
My bank alt is a paladin with reason – I want the most options as possible! So while most of this gear is cloth, some of it is leather/mail. I highly recommend making a mail wearing bank alt so that you have options.

Must have items
Some things aren’t negotiable – you just gotta have em!

Recruits Boots are the starting boots for human warriors. They are also sold by Thomas Yance, a traveling salesman in Old Hillsbrad Foothills. On your level 70 plus main, just head into the first Caverns of Time instance, and fly on the dragon to get inside. Thomas Yance can be found walking the road between Southshore and Tarren Mill. He also sells some other great RP stuff, so be sure to control click to your hearts content while there!

Battered Jungle Hat is a grey item that comes from completing a level 80 fishing daily. Finally a good reason to get that fishing up! Or if you are lazy like me but have good friends, you can beg one of them to give you the next hat they get.
Oh, and if you do do all that fishing and wind up with more than one hat, sell it! On my server those things sell for close to 200g.
And now for the outfits:

Guild Billboard

**
This is my standard bank alt costume. I am a GM so wearing little more than a tabard on my bank alt just makes sense! - but if your guild has a really cool looking tabard you may want to adopt this look.
This ensemble includes:
- Guild Tabard
- Recruit’s Boots
- Tattered Cloth Gloves, Tattered Cloth Bracers – Sold by various vendors
- Shoddy Chain Belt - low level drop in Blood Elf starting area
- I chose Shoddy Chain Belt to match my guild tabard, but if your guild tabard isn’t red, here are a couple other options:
- Tattered Cloth Belt – Black with silver buckle
- Squealer’s Belt – White belt drops from “Squealer Thornmantle” in Mulgore.
- Rusted Chain Belt – Brownish and black – purchasable from vendors
- Unadorned Chain Belt – Red and yellow/gold – purchased from armorsmith in Eversong Woods

Not quite a Tux

**
If you wanna look more professional and covered without going for the traditional tux, try for this look:
- Battered Jungle Hat
- Recruits Boots
- Haliscan Jacket, Haliscan Pantaloons – crafted by Tailors
- Tattered Cloth Belt – Sold by vendors
**
Sexay, saxay!

**
If you haven’t noticed already – I tend to go for the skanky looks… This one is one of my favorites
- Battered Jungle Hat
- Recruits Boots
- Haliscan Pantaloons
- Tattered Cloth Gloves, Bracers
- Brawler’s Harness – Shirt from horde warrior starting set
Or for a similar look that is even more skanky, trade out the bracers and gloves and pants and add a belt:

**
- Dirty Leather Gloves, Tattered Cloth Belt – Sold by vendors
- Ripped Ogre Loincloth – this is some trash you wind up with while completing the Gordunni Cobalt quest in Feralas.

Lovely in black

**
Most everyone knows about the Lovely Black Dress, but it looks so incredibly cool paired with Tattered Cloth Gloves and Tattered Cloth Bracers that I had to include a pic. If you don’t have one, you can get it during the Love is in the Air event around Valentines Day (has a low drop rate from gifts of adoration, but is also readily available via the AH then).
**
Lady in red

**
This is the Undead Warlock starting robe. At risk of sounding like a Blood Elf supremacist, I must say that it looks muuuch sexier on a Blood Elf!
**
Blue Beauty (Draenei starting robes!)

**
Yes, I have Draenei Mage starting robes on my Blood Elf bank alt. I am very resourceful! Lol, details on obtaining opposite faction starting clothes below.
**
Bunny!

**
I love the bunny ears that come from the spring event. They of course look great with the Elegant Dress, and with the Spring Robes that you get from that same event, but because I like to be different, and difficult, I wear mine with the starting robes from Draenei Priests.

Basic Tips on Costuming a Bank Alt
The best source for cool bank alt clothes is starting clothes! You can see what all the starting clothes look like in wow itself – just go to create a new character and play around with it. If you find a few outfits you want, then get a friend to help you – have them stand around on their main in the starting area and trade the clothes with them while you make all the characters.
And yes, you can get starting clothes of the opposite faction – here’s how I got mine. I posted a topic on the forum for my realm that I was looking for them, would pay 5g per, and asked for an alliance to please post them on the neutral AH. I got them within 2 days!
Other cool no level required gear comes from various seasonal events. Stuff like Red/Green Winter Clothes, Lovely Black Dress, etc. I am going to kick myself this entire year because I failed to get the Spring Circlet on my bank alt while the event was in progress! (The screenshot I took above was actually my main.)
You can also get a bunch of cool things from various vendors – next time you are in a big city and see an armor vendor, start control clicking and try it all on! There is a hats vendor in dal – Chameli Banaphash that sells a witch hat and a turban for ridiculous amounts. The witch hat matches perfectly with the Blood Elf Mage starting robes if you want a witch costume for halloween btw.
All the gear in this article has no level requirement. I am totally old school when it comes to bank alts – my bank alt MUST stay level one – and I also really like the totally free barber shop visits as well. If you level your bank alt up a few levels, then you of course have more options, but I say where is the fun in that?
Anyway, happy banking everyone!

Cewl article! Now I have to go spice my bank alt up! <3
Good stuff, you’re really inspiring me. But we should also focus on male character fashion. As far as I have seen, pretty much everything on this site is designed for ladies
Those interested in male dwarf character fashion may wish to check out my blog:

Hiya Efe! Just cause we put picture of nice elf lady on top, doesn’t mean most articles are ‘just for the ladies’
Lets name few: Stormwind Guard (unisex), Pirate (unisex), Guild Meeting (separate part for female and male chars), Lumberjack (male), Fancy Assassin (unisex), It’s the Navy! (unisex), Scarlet set (unisex). However, you have the point; how cool guy have to be to pull out the dress? This cool: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqO7zEWu0W0
ps. <3 love this vid.. its from old days when game was fun and challenging *sigh*
Great article and very useful as now considering pimping/twinking my bank alt for an extra diversion and some extra fun.
1 thing concerns me – below lvl 10 characters can not have items restored i think? and also they don’t show up on armory or wil be able to join raids in 3.3.
All the above is tempting me to make my banker a lvl10 bank alt for the added security but I hate to move away from the old school philosphy.
Any thoughts on this?
Having L10 bank alt adds a bit to its security, cause in case of account theft, they will go for lowest (bank alts) and highest (DE and sell loot) chars. But if hacked, none of your chars is safe. I believe Blizz can restore even L1 chars, so it doesn’t make much difference.
My suggestion would be to invest some money in Blizzard Authenticator, or if you own iPhone/iPod Touch, you can download App (for free!) that does the same thing.
And at the end, I am L1 bank alt fan (old school
) .
Hope this helps!
